Whatever your point of entry into Nova Scotia, a road trip will be involved in getting to Mabou Ridge. If travelling by ferry, you may enter in Yarmouth, Digby, Pictou, or North Sydney. You may also come by cruise ship to either Halifax or Sydney. If travelling by car or bus, you may enter Nova Scotia through Amherst.

To get to Mabou Ridge from all points other than Sydney or North Sydney, you will need to travel to the Canso Causeway and travel the number 19 highway northward. The beautiful scenic drive along Cape Breton's western coast is not to be missed!

Mabou Ridge, Cape Breton

Getting to Mabou Ridge from the Canso Causeway
As you're entering Mabou, there is a green provincial highway sign that points right for "Mabou Ridge". Shortly after this sign, also on the right, is a gift shop called The Wild Goose Chase. The next road on the right will be the Mabou Ridge Road. You’ll see a powder blue sign for the Mabou River Inn. Turn right there. Whenever in doubt about directions on Mabou Ridge Road, veer to the right. Don’t take any lefts.

About four kilometres up the Mabou Ridge Road, there’ll be a road on your left called MacLeod’s Road. Again, don’t take that left. Mabou Ridge Centre is just beyond MacLeod's Road where the pavement stops and is the first farm on the left. The number 891 is marked on the light pole. White house, brick red barn and outbuildings, pale blue trailer. Welcome!

Getting to Mabou Ridge from Sydney and North Sydney
From Sydney, take the Provincial highway #125 to North Sydney. At North Sydney, travel the Trans Canada 105 to Whycocomagh. At Whycocomagh, take a right between Vi’s Restaurant and the Irving Station (they flank the road you have to turn on). Approximately 3km later, look for a provincial highway sign (green) that tells you to turn left to Mabou, which is Highway 252. This will travel through many communities including Skye Glen and Brook Village. You'll be met at the end by Trunk 19. When you reach the #19, turn left to Mabou

Continue through Mabou and pass the Credit Union, the Freshmart, the Post Office, the Red Shoe Pub, and the Shining Waters Bakery, all on your right and in that order. Continue on and drive over the bridge. Shortly after the bridge, you’ll see a powder blue sign on your left with white lettering for the Mabou River Inn and the Pioneer Shrine. Turn left on that road. That’s the one to Mabou Ridge. Stay on this road for approximately 4km (veer right whenever in question) until you come to #891. White house, brick red barn and outbuildings, pale blue trailer. Welcome!
