| Our Mill
Mabou Ridge Centre for Holistic Living's Mill processes a wide range of natural fibres into batts, rovings, felt, and yarn.
The Centre's state-of-the-art Mill is a farm-based business that can process a vast range of natural fibres such as Alpaca, Llama, Mohair, Angora, Cashmere, in addition to the many varieties of finer sheep wool.
Unique and high quality products can be made in quantities from a few pounds up to any amount you require. As a producer of fibre, we know how much care is taken and how important your own fibre is to you and we guarantee 100% that your own fibre will be returned. We can also provide other blending fibres, if desired, with those you wish to have processed.
Mabou Ridge Centre adheres to organic practices and standards throughout its operation. It strives to employ the responsible use of natural resources, prevent pollution and waste, and conserve cultural heritage. Only organic, biodegradable detergents are used for washing fibre, and proper treatment of waste water is employed. Any certified organic fibres are kept separate from non-certified fibres to prevent contamination if desired.
Of particular importance is the Centres desire to rekindle and encourage two of Cape Breton Islands oldest cultural skills fibre production and garment making. An impressive tribute to the rich and colourful history will take shape in the form of an interpretive centre, whose mission it is to collect, preserve and promote the traditions of fibre producers and garment makers on Cape Breton Island.
