Fibre Processing | Shearers The following are a list of shearers who are familiar about what to do right and what to avoid when shearing for fibre processing. A good shearer who is familiar with these ideas will, for example, use their comb in a way that avoids second cuts. Also, they will not until all good fleece has been picked up from the animal go back to "clean up" the animal to make it look smooth if necessary. Going back over an animal without having collected the good fleece first will almost guarantee second cuts, which produce very unfavourable results in yarn. You may also find that shearers who deal typically with sheep may not be amenable to shearing llamas and/or alpacas, and that youll need to find someone who specializes in the larger or exotic breeds.
