This portion of the Trans Canada trail follows the Ceilidh Trail from Port Hastings to Inverness. It lies along a former rail bed between the Canso Causeway and Inverness, and is therefore easy walking on fairly level land. The Ceilidh Trek begins at Christie's Lookoff on Route 19 at Creigmore, 6.5 km (4 miles) north of Stella Maris Church in Creignish.
Participants may meet the llamas here, where there is plenty of parking space, or they may accompany the llamas from Mabou Ridge Centre, which is situated 30 km (19 miles) to the north up Route 19.
From Christie's Lookoff, a path shortly joins the Trans Canada Trail. At this point, the trail follows the coastline with splendid views across St. Georges Bay to the Nova Scotia mainland. The trek follows the trail south towards Stella Maris Church, where a site for your packed meal is chosen, within range of both the beach and the church area.
In comfortable weather, an hour is given for exploration and enjoyment of this beautiful land and seascape. For the return trip, the trekkers will retrace their steps north along the Trans Canada Trail, to Christies Lookoff.
Level of difficulty of this trek is moderate, given the distance, and with some hills along a broad, mostly dry trail.
