Checkmate was born in 1995 in Ontario, and came to Nova Scotia that same year as a young male. He was the breeding male for the herd after Stormy, but is now neutered. He is very curious by nature and is quite bold, often coming up close. He likes to know the person who is walking with him, and will want to explore your face by blowing gently to greet you. He also likes to snatch a few leaves from the hedgerow, as he walks by.
